Today, I came across a 1-⭐️ rating accompanied by a review. It's... interesting, to say the least. While I understand that not everyone will enjoy my book, it still stings to see such a low rating. I've braced myself for criticism, but encountering a 1-⭐️ rating still leaves me feeling disheartened.
As both an author and a reader, I regularly leave reviews for books I've read. Typically, I'm generous with my ratings, reserving 5-⭐️ for books I find nothing to complain about, regardless of my preferences. However, if I notice minor issues, I'll give 4-⭐️, and for significant problems, I'll give 3-⭐️.
Though I rarely give 1 or 2-⭐️ ratings, I understand the effort behind writing and respect differing opinions. However, this doesn't imply that I avoid giving low ratings altogether. If a book genuinely merits a low rating, I'm committed to providing a comprehensive review explaining my reasons, free from any bias or personal preferences.
I accept low ratings as constructive feedback, learning from mistakes to improve in the future. Yet, I struggle to accept 1-⭐️ ratings without any accompanying reviews. While I understand that everyone has different tastes and opinions, receiving a 1-⭐️ rating is disheartening.
I have received some 1-⭐️ ratings before, without any reviews. Receiving 1-⭐️ ratings without any accompanying reviews was frustrating. I didn't understand why my book was deemed worthy of such a low rating. Without feedback, I couldn't identify areas for improvement. It felt like these ratings were from random haters rather than genuine critiques. Moreover, these ratings affected all my Amazon pages globally, yet there was no evidence of readers purchasing or reading the book, making me suspicious of how these ratings became global.
Regarding the 1-⭐️ rating I discovered today, one might expect relief that it finally includes a review. However, this wasn't the case for me. I couldn't shake the feeling that the review was biased and unfair, lacking reason and objectivity.
There were two points in the review: topic and AI illustrations. I understand that some people dislike AI illustrations, which may lead them to dislike the book. But what about the topic? Considering YouTubing as a career is vapid? Really, what decade are you from? It's hard to communicate with those unwilling to embrace modern technology.
When it comes to modern technology, I've faced numerous harsh reactions regarding the use of AI to support my work. Critics claim AI illustrations are trash and insist on hiring a 'real' illustrator. As a small author, I can't afford one. I've heard countless stories of authors hiring illustrators only to receive subpar AI-generated images, sometimes worse than what they could create themselves. It's frustrating to see people criticize AI while exploiting it without effort, scamming customers in the process. I'm hesitant to hire an illustrator without knowing how to find a reputable and affordable one, fearing I'll fall victim to a scam. As time passes and I am able to afford higher-quality illustrations, my perspective may shift, but not for now.
I'm feeling quite frustrated at the moment. I'm considering writing fictions about AI, but I'm hesitant because I think it's a controversial topic. I'll keep you updated if I decide to publish new book on the subject.
Thank you for reading through my frustrations and thoughts.
